TESCON-UK HOLDS ANNUAL CONFERENCE VIA ZOOM

TESCON-UK HOLDS ANNUAL CONFERENCE VIA ZOOM

The Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) branch of the NPP in UK has

held its annual conference despite the insurgence of the global Covid-19 Pandemic.

Unlike previous years, this particular conference maximized technology through the use

of the Zoom APP to reach its numerous members spread across the country and beyond.

The conference was massively attended by high-ranking personalities within the Youth

wing of the NPP. Dignitaries such as Richard Gyamfi (Youth Organizer, NPP-UK),

Samuel Annobil a.k.a SNOW (TESCON Coordinator, Ghana), Eunice Acheampomaa

(Deputy Youth Organizer, UK), Oheneba Boakye (Youth Wing Secretary, UK), Mark

Boansi (Interim President, TESCON-UK), Akosua Konadu (Interim Secretary, TESCON-

UK), George Pese (Interim Organiser, TESCON-UK) and Kobby Ofori (Interim VP,

TESCON-UK and Host) are particularly worth of mentioning for their immense

contribution towards the conference.

The main rationale of this meeting was to touch base with members and to address

pertinent issues pertaining to members’ welfare in this period of global pandemic. The

conference specifically centered on Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund, TESCON-UK

Inauguration, Internship Interventions for members, Election 2020, and other related

matters arising as well as update from The Youth Wing in Ghana.

Undoubtedly, the World is at a critical juncture of a deadly novel pandemic which

appears to have taken virtually everyone by surprise. As a vibrant political student group

in diaspora, NPP-UK has already instituted a Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund to cater

for vulnerable Ghanaians for which students were major target. The fund sets to offer

financial relief packages such rent, fees, health and shopping vouchers among others for

Ghanaians who are financially affected by the pandemic.

The conference also touched on the official inauguration of the TESCON-UK Branch of

the NPP in the bid to formalize the operations of the group into all activities of the party.

The conference further highlighted the initiation of the Youth Visitation Programme

which is slated to be carried out on all University campuses in the UK. The meeting

stressed on the readiness to inaugurate the TESCON-UK which was planned to take place

in April but was called off as a result of the pandemic. The conference formed aresolution for interim executives to visit all the TESCON chapters after the Covid-19

pandemic to encourage and motivate members towards the official inauguration.

Regarding internship packages for members, the conference emphasized the need to

initiate discussions with both private and public agencies on creating internship and

mentorship opportunities for the future brains of the party.

Election 2020 remained a very important item for discussions of which all members were

tasked to avail themselves to the service the party for victory 2020. The National Youth

Organiser (UK branch) who was a major stakeholder in the meeting outlined plans the

NPP-UK has in place for the upcoming election. He entreated members to keep up the

good work to retain the party in power in December, 2020. The Interim Vice President,

Kobby Ofori, reiterated that, members should stay committed and get involved in

delivering a vibrant TESCON that seeks to galvanize young people in the diaspora

towards national development.

The National TESCON Coordinator, Samuel Annobil, who joined the meeting from

Ghana, applauded the vibrancy of TESCON-UK. His report indicated that the Youth

Wing of the NPP under the leadership of Nana Boakye, is working so hard to ensure

massive victory for the party in 2020.

He hinted that the strategy towards the upcoming general elections has changed because

of the pandemic but would be well informed in the coming days about the necessary steps

taken by the National Youth Organizer.

It is worth mentioning that the NPP remains resolute and well composed to raise

pragmatic strategies for all youth groupings within the party in the run-up to the

impending election.
