Elsewhere on Opta Analyst during the 2022 World Cup, we’ll cover the big questions, such as:

• Can Gareth Southgate’s England team recover from their poor performances in the UEFA Nations League and their disappointment at being runners-up to Italy at Euro 2020 and losing in the semi-final at the 2018 World Cup?

• Can the Netherlands national team – 2010 finalists in South Africa – be the dark horses as some expect?
• Can favourites Argentina follow up on their 2021 Copa America crown and end the run of four successive European winners?

• Can France win back-to-back titles after their 2018 World Cup success in Russia?
• Brazil topped the South American qualifying group ahead of Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and Venezuela. Our predictor suggests they are favourites to win for a sixth time in World Cup history – can they go all the way?

• Two teams to make it to Qatar 2022 via the UEFA playoffs were Wales and Poland, who defeated Ukraine and Sweden respectively – can they make shock progress through to the round of 16 at the expense of England and Argentina?
