According to Kwesi Amoako Atta, minister of roads, the minimal improvements made to the country’s roads can be attributed to Ghanaians’ failure to pay the e-levy.
He thinks that the government would have had more funds to pay for roads all around the country if Ghanaians had not been miserly and had agreed to pay into the e-levy.
“We would have built more roads for ourselves if all of us had contributed to the e-levy,” he told the media. “It would have brought in a lot of money to replace the tollbooths.”
He claimed that over time, toll revenue has not been able to build even 10 km of roads since, after paying salaries, there is no longer any worthwhile work to be done.
According to Kwesi Amoako Atta, toll booths have not been completely dismantled.
