VGMA Ban Has Helped My Career – Stonebwoy Tells

Stonebwoy

Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has downplayed the negative impact of the ban placed on him by the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The CEO of Burniton Music Group has indicated that the indefinite ban handed to him has rather helped his career.

The rivalry between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale hit the roof in the wee hours of Sunday after Shatta Wale and his multitude of fans attempted to mount the stage uninvited to join Stonebwoy who was receiving the 2019 Reggae and Dancehall Artiste of the Year award.

Stonebwoy who felt threatened by the manner his bitter rival approached the stage pulled out a handgun handed him on stage by one of his entourage, a scene that sparked a scuffle between the two artistes and their followers.

The awards event was temporarily halted and the topmost two awards for the event, Most Popular Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year, were deferred due to the melee which has widely been condemned by stakeholders in the industry.

This however, led to the banning of the two dancehall heavyweights in the award scheme.

Speaking with MzGee on 3FM’s Showbiz927, the ‘Hero’ hit singer said,“The VGMA ban has actually helped my career. This is because it hasn’t had any negative effect, then it helped. Its either here or there. I think lifting of the ban is only advantageous to the VGMA scheme to have some of Ghana’s top artistes to get involved in the scheme. So whether they lift it or not, we’ll still continue to do music for Ghana.”

The multiple award-winning singer went on to state how lifting the ban will be to the advantage of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

“When they lift the ban, there’s a lot of things to be talked about. There’s meetings to be held amongst the artiste that are involved, so its not only dependent on what they say is a ban lift or placement that matters. That is just 0.00% of the whole issue. That is why I say the ban hasn’t done any harm to me.” he concluded.
