President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his household have tested negative for COVID-19.
This was disclosed by the President’s personal physician Dr Takyi Ankrah at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, 1 April 2020.
“A day before the President’s birthday, we tested him, the First Lady, his daughters and all the staff in his household and I’m happy to announce that all the tests came out negative…” Dr Ankrah said.
“I’m on him to make sure he observes the social distancing; people have observed he’s not wearing the mask and a lot of questions have been asked but he’s observing the social distancing strictly and I’m making sure he’s washing his hands frequently and he’s also using his sanitisers as well,” she added.
Some Ghanaians, especially people from the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), had called for the President to be tested.
This was because the President and some of his ministers had toured some countries in Europe which had the disease prior to Ghana recording her first case.
As of Wednesday, 1 April 2020, Ghana had recorded a total of 195 confirmed COVID-19 cases with five deaths.
