According to one of Ghana’s former professional footballers, Yusif Chibsah, Abedi Ayew Pele is a better player than Messi and Ronaldo as far as the technical aspect of the game, is concerned.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaweb, Chibsah said Africa is endowed with so many talents who are better than the foreign players basically because the spotlight has been placed on them.

He held on to the assertion that Ghanaian players are naturally gifted and should be way ahead of all their competitors on the international stage but poor marketing and the African mentality has caused the retrogression of African footballers.

Using Abedi Pele as the yardstick, Yusif Chibsah, said he acknowledges the footballing prowess of Messi and Ronaldo but has the conviction that the three-time African footballer of the year is way ahead of them technically.

“He was just the best. Even on bad days for the national team, he could carry the team on his shoulders alone and that tells you the kind of player he is. If you want to see the best of Abedi, watch his game in France. If you look at what Messi, Ronald and co are doing, Abedi did them in the best ways”.

“I will say that technically he’s more gifted than Messi and Ronaldo. It’s unfortunate that we Africans don’t get global recognition. If Abedi was to be a European, he would have gotten to the stage of being the world best player. We’ve had Oppong Weah who won the world best player in his days with AC Milan but trust me Abedi was on top”.

Abedi Ayew Pele won the African Best Player award three times in a row and helped Olympique Marseille win the Champions League.

He also helped Ghana win the 1982 AFCON. Abedi Pele starred in 73 matches and scored 33 goals for Ghana.
