Residents, Drivers Cry Over Poor Roads In Meduma Newsite

Members of Meduma Newsite community in the Kwabre Municipality of the Ashanti Region are appealing to the government to help them get their fair share of the national cake by providing them with better road network.

According to the inhabitants, the stream on the road and the road itself has become a death trap to road users and if care is not taken, human lives will be lost.

“The road has been causing accident each and every day. People have been losing their lives because of the nature of the road. We have witnessed a lot of accidents on the road”, the residents claim.

Some of the people described the bad nature of the roads as streams on dams especially during the raining season which makes movement difficult especially at night.

Some drivers who use the road also revealed how they always have to visit mechanics every time they ply the road.

“We have to always visit the mechanic anytime we use the road because of our vehicles always breakdown and as a result, we sometimes do not want to use the road at all. We are urging our authorities especially our member of parliament Hon Fransisca Oteng Mensah and the municipal Chief executive of the Kwabre East municipality to fix the roads for us. This is raining season and potholes have been created on the road, if a driver is not careful and falls into them it is likely to cause accidents.”

The taxi drivers in the area also urged that, the assembly member in the area Hon George Oppong  should rather be blamed for a high rate of accidents on our roads, not the drivers because the assembly member is not doing his work to keep the roads in the area safe.

“it is about time the assembly get out from his house to work because he supposed to work outside not inside”, he said.

Sir Joe a resident in the community added that “cars carrying passengers on the road charge exorbitant fares looking at the nature of the road, avoidable accidents and pregnant women died on the road every day because of the nature of the potholes, road users tried to dodge the potholes resulting in unnecessary accidents, motorists knocking down commuters and sometimes vehicles running into each other. I am therefore calling on the government to come to our aid”.
