Residents demonstrate against Suame Municipal Assembly over siting of fuel station

Scores of residents at Bremang UGC in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region say their lives would be in danger if an ongoing development of a fuel filling station in the area is allowed to continue.

At a massive demonstration against the Suame Municipal Assembly and the Environmental Protection Agency this morning, the Bremang UGC Landlords Association said the site for the construction is not fit for that purpose.

They cited risks of fuel explosion and fire outbreaks from the fuel station, which is being built on a plot of land sandwiched between two residential buildings and opposite a hotel.

The said development, according to the landlords is being constructed by GOIL Ltd; there was however nobody on site to speak with the media at the time of the demonstration.

Some of the demonstrators who spoke with the media threatened to vote against the government in 2020 if the developer is allowed to complete the project.
