Presidency Broke, Cannot Fund Independence Day Celebration – Chief Of Staff

According to the current situation, the President’s office will not provide any financial help for the organization of this year’s Independence Day celebrations.

The Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, sent a ‘Wireless Message’ to all Regional Ministers (RMs) and their Regional Coordinating Councils (RMCs).

She added that the president’s budget is limited, thus the regions will not be able to celebrate Independence Day financially.

As a result, the Chief of Staff has advised that the day be observed in silence.

“I am directed to inform your regional coordinating council that due to budget constraints, the office of the president will not be able to provide financial support to your council for the 65th March activities for this year as has been the practice in previous years: you are therefore urged to be modest in our 65th Independence anniversary celebration activities,” read part of the ‘Wireless Message’ seen.

The 65th anniversary of Ghana’s independence will be celebrated in the Cape Coast Sports Stadium with the theme “Working Together, Bouncing Back Better.”

Meanwhile, Kofi Bentil, Senior Vice President of Imani Ghana, has expressed concern over how schoolchildren will be treated during the Independence Day celebrations.

He wants the abuse of schoolchildren marching in the hot heat to end.

“I honestly hope we’ve progressed beyond lining up children in the sun to march in the name of Independence Day!” “Can we just refrain from harming children on March 6th!!!” he wrote on his Facebook page.
