Persistent rainstorms flooded large areas of BrongKong Afrancho on Tuesday, causing a bridge collapse and prompting several rescues by state and local authorities.

According to Some Residents and an opinion leaders who spoke to Media Said, the bridge is too small and any time it rains, the whole area gets flooded easily because it is the only bridge that links all water from, Kodie, Atimatim,Afrancho, and its environs to the other side.

“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid and expand the bridge for us”. They said

“The Assembly Member for the Area, Mr Philip Sarkodie Addo, narrated their displeasure with the devastating nature of the bridge in an interview with Asona Dehyie Kwateng and explained how he and committee members have been organizing some youth very often to Constructe the bridge to allow smooth flow in order to avert any eventualities but, due to its high cost has abandoned the construction.

“The bridge was constructed many years ago where the population was very small as compared to the current population of the area. So there is much pressure on it and that is what makes it to overflow any time it rains and washes away the bitumen and gravel on it”, he revealed.
The bridge is now a death trap for drivers, commuters, residents and even pedestrians that apply the road.
