NPP to adopt ‘door-to-door’ campaign style amid COVID-19 pandemic – Sammi Awuku

National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has revealed that the party has resolved to use innovative ways to reach out to electorates ahead of the 2020 General Elections.

According to Mr. Awuku, the coronavirus global pandemic has made it virtually impossible for large-scale political campaigns and rallies as witnessed during successive elections in the country.

With this, the NPP has readjusted its modus operandi for this year’s election taking into consideration the ‘new normal’ where credence is given to social distancing and other health protocols in a bid to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM on Friday, May 23, 2020, the national organizer indicated that the party has resolved to revisit and perfect the ‘retail campaign’ method they innovated ahead of the 2016 elections.

“We will miss that kind of feeling you get when you meet a brother or sister on the grounds…I’m sure, with all the political parties this year, we’ve been forced to readjust to the new normal and also observe these social and health protocols; and aside from that, now, every strategist in a room is trying to find new and creative ways that you can still reach out to the masses,” Sammi Awuku noted.

He continued that “now, the real test of everyone’s strategy will be what the NPP introduced in 2016 that we called the retail campaign. It nearly looked like the NPP could predict or look into the future that a time will come that, that will be the best way of campaigning. But retail campaigning is difficult than any form of campaign. The retail campaign is identifying the voter or electorate and visiting the electorate where the person is. You call it door-to-door.”
