National ID numbers to become SSNIT numbers effective 1st April

President Akufo-Addo has revealed that effective 1st April, all national ID numbers will become SSNIT numbers.

The move, according to the President is to improve enrollers on SSNIT to 15 million.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address, the President Akufo-Addo said 70% of Ghana’s adult population are without bank accounts and that service delivery in most MDAs are largely manual and heavily bureaucratic.

“From the second quarter of this year, all national ID numbers will become SSNIT numbers. This will increase our SSNIT enrollers to 15 million. National ID numbers will also be linked to NHIS cards”, he added.

The President also noted that for the first time, through the implementation of the Digital Property Address system, every location in Ghana has a digital address.
