A man identified as Felix Aposonge Ayelazoya has been arrested by the Upper East Regional Police Command for allegedly cutting the ring fingers of his 11-year-old nephew for stealing his GHC20.00.
Graphic Online reports that Felix placed the victim’s fingers on a wooden panel and used a machete to cut the two fingers off.
The boy’s endless cry of pain attracted the attention of residents of Zorkor Gambolga in the Bongo District in the Upper East Region where the sad ordeal took place.
According to Mr Fianko-Okyere, the suspect, about 12:30 p.m. on that same day, had accused his nephew (the victim), who had been staying with him since he was four years old, that he had stolen his GH¢20, but the boy denied taking the money.
That, he said, infuriated the suspect, compelling him to chop off the two fingers of the boy, which left him bleeding profusely.
According to the regional police PRO, the police were preparing to send the docket to the Attorney-General’s Department.
He said the boy was given a medical form to go for treatment at the Bongo District Hospital and also asked to stay with a different family member.
Mr Fianko-Okyere advised the public to desist from taking actions that would ruin the future and the survival of children, saying the police would do everything in their power to protect children.
Remand
Mr David Fianko-Okyere also told Daily Graphic that the suspect had subsequently been remanded in prison custody by the Bongo Magistrate Court to reappear on July 10, 2020.
According to him, the suspect had been charged with using offensive weapon, contrary to Section 70 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and causing harm.
