LOCKDOWN : Krobo MCE bans non-food sellers, under-15-year-olds from markets for 2 weeks

As part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 within the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, the Municipal Public Health Emergency Committee, together with the Municipal Security Committee, has banned all non-foodstuff sellers from selling in the Agormanya market for the next two weeks starting from today, Saturday, 11 to 25 April 2020.

The Eastern Region has reportedly recorded 28 cases of COVID-19 so far.

Although the region is excluded from the government’s partial lockdown, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Simon Kweku Tetteh believes these measures, coupled with others, will help slow the spread.

The other directives include the closure of all drinking bars/pubs by 8:00 p.m.

Also, “security checkpoints would be mounted at all entry points to the municipality.”

Children below 15 years have also been banned from entering any market.

The MCE advised all foodstuff sellers to strictly adhere to social distancing protocols.

He also urged the residents of the region to ensure regular washing of hands with soap under running water for, at least, 20 seconds and use alcohol-based hand sanitisers regularly.

Mr Tetteh further called on the traditional authorities, churches, mosques, political leaders and other stakeholders to help sensitise the people, adding that transport operators should strictly adhere to the social distancing protocol.

He said the police and the Emergency Response Team of the Assembly will step up patrol operations to ensure that the measures are complied with.
