Koforidua Technical University to scale up infrastructural projects

The Koforidua Technical University is due to undertake a number of infrastructural projects to expand space for an increase in admission of students into the university.

The projects which will be fully funded by the university’s internally generated funds is expected to give a facelift to the university as well.

The projects include the construction of a two-storey multipurpose classroom block, the renovation of the GetFund hostel, staff bungalows, central classroom blocks, the establishment of a laboratory for the faculty of built and natural environment among others.

Professor Samuel Nana Obeng Apori, the Council Chairman of the Koforidua Technical University who made this in a speech at the university’s 15th congregation over the weekend said approval has already been given for the projects.

” The management, staff, students and stakeholders of the Koforidua Technical University should expect a massive transformation in all spheres of the university’s life. Approval has been given for the renovation and refurbishment of the GetFund hostel, staff bungalows, central classroom blocks, the establishment of a laboratory for the faculty of Built and Natural Environment, the retooling of ICT, biomedical and medical laboratories and change of the ergonomically unfriendly classroom chairs popularly called (Ugandan chairs)”.

“Aside from this the council has decided to put up a two storey multipurpose classroom block, this is to prepare for the expected increase in admissions in September 2020 as a result of the government’s Free Senior High School policy. The cost for all the above-listed projects shall be funded from Koforidua Technical University’s internally generated fund”.

Professor Samuel Nana Obeng Apori added, ” the major challenge is capacity building to be carried out for senior members academic and non-academic, this has risen from the change in the status of the institution from Polytechnic to a Technical University. The council and management are also enjoined to ensure that the core mandate of training skilled technical manpower at the tertiary level is complied with”.
