I’ve Been Advised Not to Criticize NPP Government Because They’re Vindictive – Kwesi Botchwey

Former Finance Minister Kwesi Botchway has raised concern about what appears to be a rising intolerance in the country toward dissent.

The NDC stalwart claims that his family and well-wishers have discouraged him from speaking out against any negativity in government under Akufo-Addo.

Mr Botchway was a featured speaker at a One Ghana Movement event held at the University of Ghana.

During a discussion about the status of the economy, the former Finance Minister claimed that he was advised to be cautious in his remarks or risk being attacked.

He compared President Akufo-call Addo’s for Ghanaians to be “citizens not spectators” during a speech in 2017 to the current reality on the ground.

“These folks are vengeful, and if you criticize them, they’ll come for you,” they claimed. I was shocked, and I wondered if this was genuinely representative of public opinion at the time.

“Or whether these friends had perhaps missed His Excellency the President’s exhortation to us to be citizens, not spectators, which phrase I was sure he meant in serious in his inaugural address in 2017,” he said on Monday.
