Issues of corruption has reduced drastically under Akuffo Addo – Asante Akim North MP

“Empirically, it is not implausible to associate extreme poverty and perverse inequality to countries with high levels of corruption. Corruption is one of the most destructive impediment to economic and social development. It takes away resources from the common pool and deprives a large population of partaking in the share of the national cake.
It is in light if this that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led NPP government is working assiduously to make corruption unattractive in Ghana”.

This pronouncement was made by Deputy minister for railways development, Hon Andy Appiah Kubi during a radio interview as monitored by Ghwatchdog.com over the weekend.

According to the legal luminary, the administration of Nana Akufo-Addo has over the last two and half years introduced systems and initiatives tailored at reducing the human interface in service delivery while significantly increasing the resources available to anti-corruption agencies in an all-out effort to cut out waste and eliminate opportunities for corrupt practices.

The Asante Akim North MP said apart from the appointment of citizen vigilante, Martin Alamisi Amidu, as the Special Prosecutor to deal with exceptional cases of corruption, the current NPP government has put in place plethora of measures to curb the debilitating corruption canker.

The one-time General secretary aspirant of the ruling government, given a chronology of interventions put in place to help reduce the menace said, “The introduction of online systems have virtually eliminated corruption at state institutions such as DVLA, Passport office and Business registration office at the Registrar-General’s Department. Corruption at the ports have been reduced through the paperless reforms. The Right to Information Act has been passed, Public Procurement is now more transparent with the e-procurement system that has been implemented by the PPA. The e-justice programme has also been launched to automate the court processes, digitization of the Lands commission is in place, prosecution of former appointees for alleged corruption-related offences are ongoing, among others.

The Deputy minister added that, ” the order by the court to retrieve the Ghc51 million fraudulently paid to Woyome was an attestation to the current regimes resolve to reduce corruption to its barest minimum”.

Ghana was the 78th least corrupt nation out of 175 countries, according to the 2018 Corruption Perception Index reported by Transparency International.
