Government Will This Year Expand Free SHS To Cover 1st Year Students In Public TVET Institutions – Akufo-Addo

The government will expand the free senior high school program this year to include first-year students in public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Akufo-Addo stated that educational investments are a top priority for his administration.

President Akufo-Addo was speaking at an awards event in Accra ahead of Ghana’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.

“Education spending is a top priority for my government. To achieve our industrialization goal, the government plans to deepen our population’s education.

“This implies our educational system will place a greater focus on science and technology education, as well as technical and vocational training.”

“In addition to the Accra STEM Academy, the government has started building 20 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics centers across the country, with all twenty-eight in various states of completion.

“Nine model senior high schools are nearing completion around the country, and the government plans to expand the free senior high school program this year to cover all first-year students in public TVET institutions.”
