Abena Nyarko of Asante Aduana clan of Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region is to face the legal power of the laws of Ghana for slapping his boyfriend of 3years of dating.
Speaking to me was Kwabena Ato of Ekuona clan of Sekyere Dumasi in the Ashanti Region. Ato who is the boyfriend of Abena Nyarko gave us how the whole episode escalated.
On Sunday May 17 Kwabena who lives together with his girlfriend left for village to visit his grandma but unfortunately could not return to town. Due to poor network coverage at various villages Kwabena lost signal and could not reach his girlfriend. It did not take the end of that faithful Sunday for Abena to accuse Kwabena of sleeping around with other girls since his number was not going through.
Kwabena returned home on Monday May 18 just to find an angry girlfriend and a distressed home. He tried explaining things to his girlfriend but couldn’t make success.
Abena accused Kwabena of cheating and when Kwabena demanded evidence, she was quick to offer three consecutive rounds of slaps. She was overwhelmed of the moment as Kwabena lost the battle and the next thing that came was a blow to Kwabena’s eye sending him straight to the floor.
Neighbors rushed in and the pains Kwabena was going through was abnormal so they reported the issue to Sekyere Dumasi Hospital for treatment.
Father of Kwabena Ato, Mr. Samuel Ato took over the case and reported to the Sekyere Dumasi police station on Friday May 22 and Abena Nyarko was arrested. Abena has failed bail requirement and is still in police custody waiting for transition to court on Tuesday May 26.
When asked Kwabena if he thinks about dropping the case and settling it at home, he said the case is now beyond him, we asked what makes it beyond and he couldn’t answer it.
We asked Mr. Samuel Ato the man who took the case to the police and he said he cannot allow someone to ruin his boy’s life.
According to prosecution, Abena Nyarko can spend from 6months to 2 years in jail for assault.
