Ghanaians React To The 20% Increment In Transport Fares

Some commuters have already witnessed their transport fares go up by 20 percent on Monday following the joint statement released on Sunday.

The Ghana Committed Drivers Association, the Truth Drivers Union, Concern Drivers Association and other unions and associations have announced a 20 percent increase in transport fares effective Monday, May 17.

“The increase [in transport fares] has become necessary in view of the number of taxes on fuel announced by the government in the 2021 budget and was subsequently approved by Parliament,” a portion of the statement said.

Social media users in the popular Facebook group, Trotro Diaries have reacted to the new prices of their fares.

Most of them lamented the constant rise in transport fares as this is the second time in the last five months against meagre salaries they receive at the end of the month. Others also opined that general prices of commodities will rise as well.

Phrancx Mawuli said “I hope at this point we ain’t gonna use party cards to purchase foil nor pay for transport. One of the several reasons we need to think as Ghanaians but not party members.”

Izzy Quecy said “Man for buy horse cos the increase in transport fares no dey make sense”

Andrews Nyarko said “This will also lead to automatic increase in price of almost every item”

Darnell Moses said “Still aa some party faithfuls wud come and defend it passionately… We all we dey Inside 🤐

Elizabeth Amonobea Ofori said “This is why we say fix the country… anaa this one too it’s our attitude??? Mona moo bl3 for them they get free fuel…. Out of ya tax!!”

Nana Afua Otu said “If u know it’s a joke please stop😭 I’ve budget for the month already”

Dennis Okra Goodman said “I think I have to quit my job then because this transport fare would slash my meagre salary. Oh God, I wished I was born in Europe😭

Izzy Quecy said “chale that means daily expenses dey come increase and salary stays the same”

Bobby Lantei Millz said “Ye wu. No salary increment tooo. Man for run away from this country ooo”

Jay Ridd Burner said “But for real commercial drivers are suffering ooo. Imagine the number of times fuel has been increased but there hasn’t been any increment in transport fares. It’s not easy at all.”
