The new electronic transaction levy, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, is the finest method to create a young entrepreneurial nation.
He told JoyNews that the government realizes the difficulties of youth unemployment and that events like the Volta Fair provide a platform for young people to participate in the new paradigm shift to job development.
“I understand the concerns from all sides,” he told the reporters, “but this is the best way to go if we are to rebuild and strengthen Ghana’s entrepreneurship situation.”
The introduction of the 1.75 percent electronic levy has sparked widespread criticism, with many speculating that it will mean disaster for the poor and disadvantaged, as well as entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, the Fix the Country organization has decided to stage a protest against the 2022 budget on November 26. The budget, according to the group’s and demonstration’s organizers, sends a negative message to entrepreneurs.
