Dumsor at the corner as Ghana-Ameri deal expires

The Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) agreement between Government of Ghana and Ameri has come to an end yesterday, Sunday 31st January 2020.

The deal signed under the watch of Former President John Dramani Mahama in 2015, on a 250MW thermal plant to help solve the then power crises is now over and that should be a major concern to Ghanaians in terms of power stability.

Reports has it that per the Agreement, the power plant will be handed over to the government through the Volta River Authority and Ameri has already written to the government about their readiness to hand it over.

Meanwhile according to one economist,Eugene Bawell, No VRA staff has been trained to operate the plant should Ameri handover successfully.

“I can confirm that government has not yet responded to the letter. Ghana’s indebtedness to AMERI (over $32 million) has not been settled, no technical audit has been conducted and no staff of VRA has been trained to operate the thermal plant. In terms of the economics, it will be in our interest to own and operate the plant,” he revealed in a Facebook post
