Breaking News: EC Suspends Pilot Voter Registration Exercise as Machines fail

The piloting of the Electoral Commission’s Voter Registration exercise has been suspended in the Western Region. This is as a result of a fault developed by the Biometric Verification Machine (BVD). The development at the office of the Electoral Commission in Sekondi left persons who had gone there to participate in the exercise stranded.

Skyy News’ Nana Yaw Kumi who has been at the premises reports the Electoral Commission has packed out all the machines since they were not responding after series of trials. The machines had refused to switched on and refused to respond after different power cables were tried on them. The Regional director of the Electoral Commission is yet to comment on the issue but representatives of political parties at the registration center have confirmed the suspension.

The piloting of the registration exercise by the Electoral Commission started yesterday. In all, a total of seventy-three (73) persons went through the process successfully in the Western Region.

Western Region Director of the Electoral Commission Mrs. Angelina Tagoe told us yesterday that, the commission was poised in ensuring all qualified Ghanaians are registered.
