Kofi B’s death: Kofi Nti has more to tell us – Mark Okraku Mantey

President of the Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey has requested for a further probe into the death of highlife musician Kofi B.

According to him, the late musician’s close confidant, Kofi Nti, needs to furnish Ghanaians and people in the entertainment industry with more details on what led to the sudden death of the “Mmobrowa” singer.

Kofi B, real name, Kofi Boakye Yiadom died on Sunday, February 2, 2020.

He died at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital after he was rushed there for treatment.

He had complained of chest pains and a seemingly high blood pressure.

Many celebrities including Sarkodie, KOD, Ama K. Abebrese, among others have reacted to the death of the award-winning “Bantama Kofi Boakye” singer.

Also reacting to the death on Accra-based HitzFM, Monday, Mr Okraku Mantey said he did not believe the news when he first heard it since Kofi B is known for such stunts.

He indicated that since Kofi Nti, also a musician, is closer to the deceased, it will be prudent to find out from him what exactly transpired because to him (Mark Okraku Mantey) ‘something is wrong somewhere.’

“Kofi has a track record of publicity stunts so when he wants to release…so I didn’t believe it, because he’s done it before so I know he can do it but let’s face facts, he had a very bad temper, he will insult people easily so some of us had our bad times with him. Kofi Nti will call and massage the situation, but lately, he had become calm, he had become what we wanted him to be.”

“Kofi Nti has more to tell us, something was wrong somewhere…I think we should ask Kofi Nti, I think he has had a particular sickness he has kept from all of us and we didn’t know,” he said.

Already, there are speculations that Kofi B died of high blood pressure, although an autopsy is yet to be conducted on his body.

But in the radio discussion monitored by ABC News, Kofi Nti, who was with the musician when he died, confirmed that the late Kofi B was on medication when the incident occurred.

He discredited reports that Kofi B died after performing a show for a Chief in the Central Region noting rather that the musician died hours before the show’s scheduled time.

“He used to take drugs for pressure, when we were going for the show, he even stopped by the road to buy porridge, he said he wanted to use it to take his medicine. Kofi did not perform for the show. He died at 3:45 am, we were supposed to perform in the afternoon on Sunday so there was no performance, the way he cracked jokes for me to laugh on Saturday,” he told Hitz FM’s Andy Dosty.

As a form of advice on how musicians can endure the pressures of the industry without contracting various ailments, Mark Okraku Mantey said, “Every year we must do thorough checks, I know it’s difficult, sometimes it’s not the money we pay but the time and sometimes it’s the fear of the unknown. You’re scared they will tell you that we just saw that you have this [sickness] but its better we know so that you take the steps toward them than not to know at all.”
