NPP Not Ready To Support Any Candidate To Contest Unopposed – John Boadu

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has downplayed suggestions that the party is supporting some parliamentary candidates to contest unopposed.

He stated that the party has not taken any decision to allow any aspiring or incumbent Members of Parliament to solely contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries without allowing anyone to contest them.

There was tension in the NPP as their Ashanti Regional Chairman, Antwi Boasiako was bent on protecting all sitting Members of Parliament from being contested in the 2020 primaries of the party scheduled for April 2020.

But speaking at a press conference in Accra to announce the guidelines and modalities that are associated with the party’s primaries come 25th of April 2020, Mr. Boadu in a reaction said, nobody in the party has the right to prevent any person from contesting the upcoming primaries.

He, therefore, warned party executives within the various constituencies not to try restricting and questioning anybody from picking up nomination form but rather allow the party’s vetting committee do those questioning.

John Boadu also stressed that, all aspirants who fall out of the primaries have no right of going to court or have no right to decide to contest as independent against the party since it will be against the rules of their primaries which they will be signing up for.
