Assembly polls: Go for women; men no better – Alima Mahama

Hajia Alima Mahama called for the election of more women in the upcoming District Assembly election

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, has called for the election of more women in the 17 December 2019 District Assembly elections.

The polls will be held across the country.

The successful candidates will steer the affairs of the assemblies for four years.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, 2 December 2019, the minister noted that enough awareness has been created about this year’s upcoming elections and urged the electorate to prioritise female candidates.

She said: “17 December, you’ll go for your assembly member; vote for the females. Vote for the female candidates, we want to see more women in District Assemblies. The men are no better than them. The advantage is that we’ve got everybody understanding and talking about district-level elections, so, that’s part of it.”
