Suspended national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko has reinforced assertions that there are factions within the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, and he belongs to the Kufuor one.

The main opposition party has several factions notably the Kufuor and Akufo-Addo factions which led to internal wrangling ahead of the 2016 elections.

Speaking in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday, Afoko emphasised that he belongs to the John Agyekum Kufuor faction because of Kufuor’s principles.

He described the former president, who ruled Ghana from 2000 to 2008, as a “diplomat” who believes in upholding the constitution of the party.

“He is a diplomat. A quintessential diplomat,” Afoko stressed.

He added: “I can speak for Kufuor because he has not put himself into the fray and he is above it. Looking at the man and his record…. he falls squarely within the faction that believes in the democratic principles.”

Afoko has been on indefinite suspension for allegedly working against the fortunes of the main opposition party. He is on suspension with two other national executives – Kwabena Agyepong, General Secretary, and Sammy Crabbe as the first vice chairperson.

The trio are in court challenging the decision of the National Executive Council.
