Three dead, scores trapped in galamsey pit at Dunkwa Breman

Three unidentified persons have died on Wednesday morning after an illegal mining (galamsey) pit collapsed on them at Breman in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.

The deceased are two young men and a girl. About 35 others are said to be trapped in the mine and are yet to be rescued.

Police officers and officials from the National Disaster and Management Organisation (NADMO) are present at the mining site in a bid to save the trapped miners.

The bodies have been deposited at the Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

The death comes in the wake of Operation Halt which has seen some 200 military personnel deployed to clear illegal miners off Ghana’s water bodies and forests.
