If you sample other people’s music without permission, then you run the risk as the owner of the original recording can sue you for using his/her work.
Highlife musician, Rex Omar in a recent interview on Hitz FM disclosed that dancehall act, Stonebwoy used a line from his song without his permission. According to Rex Omar, he could have taken Stonebwoy to court but he allowed it to slide.
Rex Omar said,
” Stonebwoy used my line in his song but I let it go. I could have sued him but I thought he was a young musician. Using someone’s line without permission is a serious breach, and our musicians need to know all this. You cannot use someone’s work without permission, no!”.
