MPs threatened to boycott parliamentary sittings if no adequate security is provided

Members of Parliament (MPs) have threatened to boycott parliamentary sittings if leadership of the House fails to provide them with adequate security.

Akyem Swedru MP, Kennedy Osei-Nyarko revealed this intention of the law makers on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on  Tuesday while commenting on the stabbing death of the MP for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu.

“We have decided that we would not work in the House ’til the leadership of the house realizes that members’ lives’ are at risk…,” he said.

“…we would not work until we are provided with adequate security…,” he said.

The stabbing of the MP, he said, has heightened concern over the state of security of Members of Parliament. According to Hon Osei-Nyarko, about five MPs were attacked by robbers in 2015 alone.

The boycott was was supported by Kpandai MP, Mathew Nyindam who blamed the failure to provide the MPs with security on the ‘selfishness of the leadership of Parliament.’

The late J.B Danquah Adu was stabbed to death by unknown assailants at his Shiashie residence on Tuesday dawn.

Police have since picked up five persons including two security guards who were on duty at his residence for questioning.
