COVID-19: Yagbonwura Halts Palace Visits, Traditional Meetings, Festivals And Funerals

The President of the Gonja Traditional Council Prof. Yagbonwura Jakpa Sulemana Tuntumba Bore-Essa I King has with immediate effect suspended traditional council meetings, Traditional gatherings, funerals and festivals until further notice.

A statement issued and signed by the Vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council Buipewura Jinapor II called on all resident to strictly adhere to this safety precaution and directive issued by the president of the Republic of Ghana.

The statement reads “Good morning, following the President’s address last night directing that all public gatherings such as funerals, conferences, meetings and schools be suspended due to the CORONA VIRUS. HRM Buipewura Jinapor II in consultation with President of The Gonja Traditional Council Prof. Yagbonwura Jakpa Sulemana Tuntumba Bore-Essa I King and Overlord of Gonja Kingdom, all are advice to strictly adhere to this safety precaution and directive issued by the president of the Republic of Ghana.

The general public is therefore notified, that from today 16th March, 2020 all traditional meetings such as Mondays and Fridays visitation to the Palace, Traditional meetings, Traditional gatherings, funerals and festivals has been suspended until further notice. It will gladden my heart if all paramount Chiefs adhere to this and act accordingly, to ensure public safety.
The Council in collaboration with Ghana Health Service will soon deploy qualified personnel to go round and sensitize people within Savannah Region and beyond. We must all act as watch dogs and each other’s keeper, report all symptoms to the appropriate quarters for further testing and examinations.

We pray that may the good Lord (God) protect and save us all in this trying times until a lasting solution is discovered.
