Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) chairman in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi; Albert Boamah is unimpressed with Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta over the loss of lives through road crashes. At a media briefing, the chairman submitted while in the event of road crashes drivers get blamed, the poor nature of Ghanaian roads also accounts for the crashes and not just the reckless driving of vehicles by drivers.
According to Albert Boamah; as a veteran driver of forty years, he has not been involved in a road crash saying agencies tasked with road maintenance duties including Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ghana Highway Authority, Department of Feeder Roads and Department of Urban Roads have been negligent in their duty. These are the responsible agencies who are supposed to fix our pot holes and road signs the Chairman stated but have failed noting he’s toured the Ashanti, Central and Brong-Ahafo regions and one problem on the road is unavailability of road signs, broken signages and overgrown weeds masking some.
The GPRTU head lamented that, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta has proven himself incompetent as several appeals have been made to him to intervene to fix the challenges to no avail and not even beseeching Ashanti Regional Highway Director has also helped.
