Spokesperson for the families of the 3 kidnapped girls in Tako, now deceased, Mr. Michael Grant Hayford says the family still maintain its claims that the bones they were exposed to at the [police headquarters were too old to be those of their missing relatives.
Families of the 3 kidnapped girls in Accra yesterday, Thursday 24th October 2019, stormed the Police Headquarters of the Ghana Police in Accra to demand the skeletal remains of the 3 kidnapped girls.
Richlove Quayson 18, Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie 15 and Priscilla Blessing Bentum 21 were kidnapped on different occasions in Takoradi in 2018.
This generated an operation #BringBackOurTaadiGirls on social media. A security operation at Kasaworodo in the Western region capital, Takoradi where the suspect, Sam Udoetuk, lived revealed human remains suspected to be that of the missing girls.
After series of investigations and DNA tests by the Police, it confirmed that the remains were indeed that of the girls.
However, families of the girls who are still not satisfied with the turnout of events have stormed the Police CID Headquarters to demand the remains of their wards as well as hard copies of the DNA Test.
Speaking to Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka FM’s “wogyegyeregye”, Spokesperson for the family, Mr. Michael Grant Hayford, stated that the skeletal remains were not handed over to them because they refused to accept the fact that the remains were that of the girls.
“What we saw today has strengthened our position that our relatives are not dead, the skeletal remains we saw cannot be that of 18 year olds and 21 year olds. And indeed we will not accept the skeletal remains as that of our wards,” he said.
Meanwhile, father Priscilla Blessing Bentum, Francis Bentum, who was not pleased with the remains of the girls displayed by the police at the Police Hospital yesterday stormed out of the room amidst restrains by other relatives.
“You think we are Kids, how can you show us bones which are over 4 years old and tell us that they are our daughters. You think we are dumb because we are not highly educated?… were the skeletal remains stored in the sea? We have sense okay. Take the remains and do whatever you want with it”, he fumed.
The main suspect in the case Sam Udoetuk Wills, a Nigerian was re-arrested after breaking out of police custody in connection with these girls, was handed a 36-months jail term for breaking out of cell.
John Oji was also arrested in connection with the kidnap of the girls.
The 3rd suspect popularly known as Chika has been apprehended by the Nigerian Police who are making plans to hand him over to Ghana Police.
