The national chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Freddie Blay, has been acquitted and discharged of contempt charges filed against him by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
The Commercial Division of the Accra High Court presided over by George Koomson while dismissing the application on Tuesday, 22 October 2019, said CHRAJ acted “incompetently and appallingly” in such an important national issue.
The court described officers of CHRAJ as being mischievous with the manner the matter was handled.
The contempt application was premised on claims by CHRAJ that the board chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation failed to respond to letters, reminders and subpoenas served on him to appear before it to respond to questions over some buses he personally purchased for his party.
